San Francisco - An American Airlines flight attendant is accused of violently taking a stroller from a woman, striking her and almost hitting her baby. After confronted by a male passenger, the flight attended dared the man to hit him.
The incident took place yesterday at San Francisco International Airport. A woman was on board an American Airlines plane ready to take of when it was alleged a flight attendant took a stroller away from the woman and used such force the woman was struck by the stroller. The woman then began crying.
As soon as she began to cry, fellow passenger, Surain Adyanthaya, began filming and the video was uploaded to Facebook last night. By the time the video began, the flight attendant had left the plane with the stroller. The crying woman is standing at the front of the plane and a member of the crew, presumably the pilot, can be seen standing at the cockpit door.
On the video, a male passenger near the front of the plane can be seen leaving his seat, going up to the cockpit and demanding the name of the flight attendant who took the stroller. It is unclear whether any of the crew members gave him the information he asked for and he can be seen returning to his seat.
Then the flight attendant who took the stroller came back into the passenger cabin. The male passenger tells then tells him, “Hey bud, you do that to me and I’ll knock you flat.” The flight attendant tells him to stay out of it and the passenger gets out of his seat again and walks directly up to the employee. The flight attendant says to the larger passenger, “Hit me! Come on, bring it on!” Crew members can be seen restraining the flight attendant and the passenger again returns to his seat.
The American Airlines employee tells the passenger he doesn’t know what the story is and the passenger replies, “You almost hurt a baby.”
The woman and her children left the plane although it is not clear whether that was her idea or she was told to leave.
American Airlines wasted no time doing damage control. The airline issued a statement saying the company has seen the video and the employee in question has been removed from duty. An investigation is already underway to gather all the facts. American apologized to the woman, her family and other passengers that were disturbed by what happened. The statement further said the video does not reflect patience and empathy, two values necessary for customer care.
The woman and her children were put on another flight to continue their international trip and American upgraded them to first class.
This incident occurred a little less than two weeks after a video showed a man being forcibly removed from a United Airlines flight in Chicago because the airline needed his seat for a crew member. That video went viral causing a lot of negative attention being paid to the practise of airlines overbooking, and bumping passengers.
