$69 flights from US to EU coming soon, says CEO of Norwegian Air

On Tuesday, Chief Executive Officer Bjørn Kjos said the flights would be offered from U.S. airports that have low fees.

The budget airline is considering flights to Edinburgh and Bergen, Norway from U.S. airports that don’t feature a lot of international service. These airports include New York’s Westchester County Airport and Connecticut’s Bradley International Airport, just north of Hartford.

Kjos said that average prices on such routes will probably be closer to $300 round trip, but that is compared to many of Norwegian’s fares that can cost more than $500 today. The price is higher because of the fees charged by busier airports.

Norwegian Air is not the first airline that has said it is considering budget flights across the Atlantic. Wow Air offered one-way tickets from Boston to Paris for $99 back in March. Wow also recently announced that it has plans to offer $75 tickets from Canada to Iceland. Eurowings, a Lufthansa subsidiary, also has plans to offer cheap trans-Atlantic flights.

In March, Ryanair, Europe’s largest budget airline, announced it had plans to offer cheap flights to Europe by 2020, and the tickets would cost around $15. However, Ryanair’s plans may not become reality anytime soon because the airline would have to invest in planes capable of making the flgihts.
