article imageWhy people from all over the world just want to cross this road

London - People are flocking from all corners of the world to cross a pedestrian zebra crossing in north London. Commuters and drivers are forced to slow down and stop to allow the pedestrians, who have right of way, to cross this famous road - but why?
Traffic is repeatedly forced to stop at this crosswalk as it is the one made famous in 1969 when The Beatles marched across here for their Abbey Road album cover. Just looking at the live streaming webcam for a few minutes and you will see tourists with arms swinging, legs astride and posing on the world's most-famous crosswalk.
During rush hour, cars, buses and taxis are repeatedly forced to slam on brakes and stop to allow tourists an opportunity to cross over, only for them to get to the other side and cross back again. Huge crowds often gather at one end of the paved walkway area on both sides of the iconic zebra crossing. Now the famous Abbey Road Studio's webcam is pointed directly at the crossing allowing the world to see just what a huge pull this usually quiet corner of London has on Beatles fans across the world.
In 2010, the famous crossing was given a listed status which means it cannot be removed, adapted, damaged or defaced in any way. To get here you will need to take the underground to St. John's Wood Station (that's on the Jubilee Line) and walk down Grove End Road for about five minutes, where you will spot hoards of tourists armed with cameras and smartphones, ready to take pictures of friends and family as they walk the famous walk.
Once you have taken that famous photo of you and your friends crossing over, it can be sent to the Abbey Road Crossing website where it is documented and stored by month and year.
Among some of the fans that have walked across this crossing are a man dressed up as a chicken, people in fancy dress, a man wearing a yellow submarine and four real penguins.
