New York City - Mayor Bill de Blasio and his wife, Chirlane McCray, decided to join in the Halloween fun this year by inviting all, via twitter, to Gracie Mansion for Halloween delights on Oct 28.
Halloween is the perfect holiday for all of any age to enjoy dressing up in an alter ego and have fun trick or treating. On Wed, Oct. 22, 2014 Mayor Bill de Blasio and his wife, Chirlane McCray, decided to join in the fun inviting all, via twitter, to Gracie Mansion for Halloween delights on Oct 28.
According to the press release "Gracie Mansion will open its (haunted) doors to hundreds of young ghoulish partygoers to mark Halloween this year." This is an exciting opportunity to see the historic Gracie Mansion as de Blasio and McCray guide a "'Spooky Walk' through the People’s House". According to legend, as reported by DNAinfo New York, "People claim that the spirit of Elizabeth Wolcott Gracie, daughter-in-law of shipping merchant Archibald Gracie who died of apoplexy in the house in 1819, still floats around 'from time to time'".
All are encouraged to dress in costumes to join in the fun with the Mayor and First Lady of New York
The Mayor and First Lady will be donning costumes and are encouraging all attending to wear their finest fancy dress as well. So now the question, what should one dress up as for Halloween when attending a festive treat-or-treat party at a grand mansion. With so many choices one can get frustrated making up their mind. Perhaps taking this Halloween costume quiz can help narrow down what costume could be the most appropriate and fun fit.
Dressing up for Halloween is perhaps the one time of year for most to let go and allow their inner being come out in a mask. When choosing or crafting a costume have fun getting creative. Do not go with the most popular, there are enough "Supermans" and Disney princesses walking about like clones. Even if going with the tried and true black cat or ghost there are ways to make the costume your very own. Perhaps someone who is Mayor of the city of New York would dress as a black cat but add a regal crown and sash to state his royal stature in the "Big Apple".
It will be exciting to see what attire Mayor de Blasio and his wife choose to dress up in. Perhaps they will make a grand entrance as a past notable couple such as Cleopatra and Julius Caesar, or maybe they will have some fun and dress up in animal costumes or as their favorite cartoon characters. McCray is known for enjoying sewing, bringing her beloved sewing machine with her in the move to Gracie Mansion. Maybe she is having fun crafting costumes for her husband and herself. For fun, de Blasio could actually dress up as the "Big Apple". His apple costume could be a bright red sparkling version of the delicious fruit that the city he rules is named for. McCray could match her husband's theme by dressing as the city's Statue of Liberty landmark. She could put a unique twist on the green lady by shedding the aging years and bringing Liberty's look back to the original shiny copper of her origins.
The costumed festivity fun will include a "Spooky Walk" through Gracie Mansion and finish with trick-or-treating at the Mansion's front door. Quickly so many answered the invite with their RSVP's, that the Halloween at Gracie Mansion reached its capacity and was forced to close the registration. Those who still want to sign up to go Trick-or-Treating with the Mayor and First Lady of the City of New York may still have a chance by adding their name to a wait list.
The party is to help gather donations for the Gracie Mansion’s Halloween Food Drive. To benefit the wonderful City Harvest organization with treats to pass on, all who are attending are being encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to contribute.
