article imageMan ordered to pay $30K child support bill for kid that isn't his

The state of Michigan is demanding that a man pay thousands of dollars for a kid that isn't his, or he could go to prison.
Carnell Alexander was pulled over by police in 1991 and the officer told him that he was a deadbeat dad and wanted Alexander to go with him. Alexander said he was blown back because he knew he didn't have a kid.
Alexander was arrested because he failed to pay $60,000 in child support. Michigan said that he fathered a child back in 1978, but he ignored court orders to pay it. He was told it was too late to get a DNA test.
Alexander ended up getting one done anyway, and the test confirmed that he was not the father. However, he said the judge said that regardless of the test results, it didn't matter because he failed to contact her more than 20 years ago.
Alexander's ex-girlfriend agrees with him and thinks he shouldn't have to pay anything, but the state insists that he still owes around $30,000. The state decided to forgive half of the debt, according to The Week.
Alexander's ex-girlfriend didn't know who the father of her child was, and she was told she needed to name the father if she wanted to get state assistance. She said that was the only way she could receive assistance.
Alexander's former partner said that it is her fault that he is going through this, and she asked the court to forgive his debt, and that's when they cut it by half.
The child in question is now 27 years old. Alexander said that everyone knows that the kid is not his and it's time to do what is right.
