A man in Denver got hit with a surprise from Uber. That surprise was being charged more than $500 for an 18-mile trip on Halloween.
Elliot Asbury said that he and his bank account got taken for a ride on Halloween. He said he was leaving a party, and he was aware that getting home was not going to be cheap, but he had no idea just how much the trip would cost him, according to Fox.
According to KDVR, Asbury said that he was only expecting to pay between $44-$100 for the ride, and not $539, which he found out when his Uber ride came to an end.
Asbury said that when he reached his destination, the driver pressed the thing on his phone and then the price was revealed.
According to NY Daily News, Asbury said the driver was surprised at the price too. He said the driver was shocked and embarrassed and told him to make phone calls and get in touch with customer service.
Uber, which is accessed via a mobile app, defended the price, saying that Asbury was warned about the price hike before he agreed to the ride.
Uber noted his claim of error of choose a more expensive vehicle to give him a ride, rather than one of their more economical options.
Asbury said that option, as well as the one to get a quote before booking, went unnoticed.
