article imageMan buys 99 iPhones to propose to girlfriend, gets rejected

A Chinese man went all out this week on his girlfriend, buying 99 iPhone 6 units and arranging them publicly in a heart shape before proposing to her. Unfortunately, the gesture didn't achieve its intended affect and she rejected him.
The man spent nearly two years worth of his salary buying the devices at a total cost of around 500,000CNY or $82,000USD. What he will do with the iPhones now is unknown but as the market is huge for them in China, he may be able to successfully resell them unused.
The man, from the city of Guangzhou, planned the surprise for November 11th, National Singles' Day in China. The event features nationwide celebration and concerted efforts by singles to woo their partners, often by spending vast amounts of money on them. This man certainly took that to the extreme though.

The Nanfang reports that the man arranged the phones in a parking lot in the city as select friends surrounded him alongside interested members of the public whose attention had been attracted to the strange spectacle. He formed a heart shape on the ground, placing the iPhone boxes horizontally on the floor in three stacked layers as the onlookers watched expectantly.
Unfortunately though, the object of his affections was unaffected by the obvious extravagance and refused his proposal. After saying no, she simply left the ring of flagship smartphones, leaving him standing dejectedly in the centre and probably wondering what to do next with bystanders gazing on at the events. Perhaps she just doesn't need a new phone or would prefer an Android one.
