Family offers $50,000 reward in search for missing student

Eloi Vasquez, 19, disappeared early Saturday morning after leaving a fraternity party near the University of Southern California campus in Los Angeles, and has not been seen since.

A friend of Vasquez reported receiving a call from him early Sunday morning saying he was lost, according to the Oakland Tribune newspaper.

Vasquez is a soccer player at the University of California at Berkeley, and had gone to Los Angeles with friends, the newspaper said.

He was not carrying any money or identification when he left the party.

“We are just so worried, because there is no sign of him anywhere,” Vasquez’s mother, Wendy Margolin, told television station KTLA, the newspaper said.

“We just have no idea where he could possibly be,” she said.

The party was at a fraternity house on West 28th Street, police said.

“Eloi is a wonderful young man who has excelled both academically and athletically here at Cal,” UC Berkeley’s athletic department said in a prepared statement.

“Our entire Cal Athletics family is very concerned for Eloi’s safety and our first priority is to help in any way we can to locate him . . . we ask that everyone keep Eloi and his family in your thoughts and pray for his safe return.”

Vasquez appeared in 12 matches and had three assists in his freshman season at Cal, the newspaper said.

He graduated from Marin Academy high school in San Rafael, Calif.

Anyone with information should contact the Los Angeles Police Department at 213-486-8582 or call 877-LAPD-23-7 on weekends.

People with information who want to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
