article imageCab driver finds $300,000 cash in back seat and returns it

Las Vegas - Proving that honesty is not dead, a Las Vegas cab driver found a brown bag full of cash that a passenger left behind on Monday. Rather than keep the money for himself, he promptly called his dispatcher and turned it in to the main office.
Vegas cab driver Gerardo Gamboa was making a routine pickup at the Bellagio resort when a doorman noticed a bag in the back seat. He handed the bag to Gamboa, who thought at first that it might be chocolates.
When Gamboa's cab came to a stop light, curiosity began to gnaw at him and he looked inside as he was waiting for the light to turn green. Rather than candy, to his surprise, he found six bundles of $100 bills, which ultimately totaled approximately $300,000.
"I told my passenger, 'You are my witness on this,'" said Gamboa, "and then I immediately called my dispatcher."
Las Vegas police were later able to link the money to a well-known poker player whose name they chose to withhold.
Though the poker player has not yet said whether or not he intends to reward Gamboa for his honesty, Yellow Checker Star Transportation promptly named him Driver of the Year and awarded him with $1,000 and a free dinner for two.
"If he doesn't give me anything, that's OK," said Gamboa. "I'm not waiting for any kind of return. I just wanted to do the right thing, and I appreciate what the company did for me."
