The Microsoft founder, philanthropist and billionaire Bill Gates is the most admired person in the world, according to a new poll.
A recent survey by YouGov for The Times newspaper has been released revealing that the billionaire, reportedly worth $78.5 billion, is the most admired person in the world. Almost 14,000 people from 13 countries were asked to list the person the most admired in the YouGov survey. On a global level Bill Gates received just over 10 percent of the vote, narrowly beating US President Barrack Obama who received just over 9 percent and Vladimir Putin who received 3.84 percent.
Bill Gates, who is well known for donating huge sums of money to humanitarian causes, launched the charity The Giving Pledge with fellow billionaire Warren Buffet with the aim of donating a part of their joint wealth to charity.
Pope Francis was fourth on the list followed by Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and the General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party Xi Jinping.
The YouGov survey was carried out in 13 different countries and a list of the most admired person in each respective country was also published. In Great Britain The Queen headed the list with almost 19 percent of the vote, followed by Barrack Obama, Pope Francis, Sir Richard Branson and The Dalai Lama. In the USA Pope Francis headed the list followed by Barack Obama, Billy Graham, George W. Bush and Bill Gates. And in Russia Vladimir Putin topped the list followed by Bill Gates, Angelina Jolie and Angela Merkel. Whilst in Indonesia there were three footballers in the top ten. The most admired person was Barack Obama followed by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi with David Beckham in tenth position.
The world top ten was : 1 Bill Gates; 2 Barack Obama; 3 Vladimir Putin; 4 Pope Francis; 5 Sachin Tendulkar; 6 Xi Jinping; 7 Narendra Modi; 8 Warren Buffett; 9 Amitabh Bachchan; 10 Abdul Kalam.
The UK top ten was : 1 Queen Elizabeth II; 2 Barack Obama; 3 Pope Francis; 4 Sir Richard Branson; 5 The Dalai Lama; 6 Desmond Tutu; 7 Stephen Fry; 8 Bill Gates; 9 Prince William; 10 David Beckham.
