article image100-year-old woman sees the ocean for the first time in her life

Just a few weeks before turning 101, Ruby Holt took a trip to the beach and saw the ocean for the first time in her life.
Holt was able to dip her feet into the muddy water, and she described the experience as wonderful. She said she has always wanted to see the ocean. "It was big and pretty like I thought it would be," said Holt.
Holt spent most of her life raising four children and working on a farm in Tennessee. She never could afford to take a trip up the coast to see the ocean, which was 400-miles.
The assisted-living center where Holt stays at, got in contact with Wish of a Lifetime organization, and she was taken to the Gulf of Mexico. It was an all-expenses-paid trip, according to Time.
Two workers from the assisted living center filled out the application and submitted it with the organization. The workers found out Holt had never been to the beach, during a water gun fight in the center's courtyard.
According to Yahoo, Holt was able to stand at the edge of the water, and use a motorized wheelchair to ride on the sand.
Holt said they didn't have anything like that back in Giles County, TN.
Holt's wish was granted earlier this month. December 13 she will be turning 101 years old.
