article imageOp-Ed: Medical cannabis the safe competition to pharmaceutical drugs

By Jeannie Stokowski-Bisanti     Mar 11, 2014 in Health
The cannabis plant is a safe alternative to a wide variety of pharmaceutical drugs, especially for mood and anxiety disorders. Because of this, medical cannabis is clearly competition to the pharmaceutical industry.
Many societies around the world have been indoctrinated to view marijuana as a dangerous gateway drug. These same societies fail to realize that prescription drugs actually have a much greater potential to turn you into an addict.
Pharmaceutical drugs have killed tens of thousands of individuals. The painkiller Vioxx, for example, killed over 60,000 before being pulled off the market. It has also been estimated that the diabetes drug Avandia, in a five-year span, killed approximately 800,000 people in Europe from inappropriate use of beta-blockers in non-cardiac surgery patients. One million people are addicted to over-the-counter and prescription painkillers and tranquilizers in the United Kingdom.
An Examiner.com article dated yesterday says that , in the United States, there were four times more deaths among women from prescription painkiller overdose than for cocaine and heroin deaths combined in 2010.
