By Karen Graham     Dec 5, 2016 in Food
Owasso - National Steak and Poultry is recalling approximately 1,976,089 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken products due to adulteration because of possible under-cooking, massively expanding an initial recall on Nov. 23.
On November 23, 2016, Owasso, Oklahoma-based National Steak and Poultry initiated a recall of approximately 17,439 pounds of its ready-to-eat chicken products over a customer complaint that the product appeared to be undercooked, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS).
The Nov. 23 recall was prompted after a food service customer complained to the establishment that product appeared to be undercooked on November 14.
On December 4, National Steak and Poultry expanded the initial recall to include almost 992 tons of chicken products that include a variety of ready-to-eat chicken products that were produced on various dates from Aug. 20 through Nov. 30. There is the potential for pathogenic bacteria to be present in the undercooked products.
The basis for recalling additional product was discovered on Nov. 28, 2016, when a food service customer complained to the establishment that product appeared to be undercooked.
Details of this latest release include a change in distribution. This is a Class 1 recall and it includes ready-to-eat chicken products that were distributed to retailers nationwide.
Cases of the recalled products bear establishment number “P-6010T” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They include chicken breast strips with rib meat, boneless chicken cubes, chicken breast fajita strips and many more items.
The FSIS list of ready-to-eat chicken products in this expanded recall runs two-and-a-half pages long. This USDA/FSIS website will have the complete list.
There have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury from the consumption of the recalled products, but consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
