article imageSaputo rejects milk from abused cattle

By Walter McDaniel     Jun 17, 2014 in Food
The food conglomerate Saputo has turned down milk from Chilliwack Cattle Sales. This comes after a video detailing horrific animal abuse by those involved with the cattle company.
This rejection was spurred on by a turn in public opinion against Chilliwack Cattle Sales and anyone affiliated with them. Customers threatened to boycott their business. 92,000 people signed the petition so this is likely a preventative move for Saputo to distance themselves from the abuse allegations.
There is little evidence that officials at Saputo knew the abuses were going on. Regardless of that they made it very clear to CTV News that they were not working with the company any longer.
The controversy started when an employee with a hidden camera started tipping the media off to the abuses. Now criminal charges may be brought against the owners and employees of Chilliwack.
Saputo is actually a major North American corporation that provides food throughout large parts of Canada as well as the United States. They have a serious reputation to maintain because any tainted or abused products that make their way into the system could go to a very large number of people.
A casual search of YouTube reveals numerous footage detailing the abuses. Those involved were seen brutally kicking cows and beating them with sticks. These were just a few of the numerous abuses which people have tracked.
The current media and popular culture in North America and in other parts of the world has turned against animal cruelty in a big way. The rejection of Chilliwack by Saputo shows just how important people believe distancing themselves from animal abuse is.
