CFIA

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) recommends that consumers check to see if these products are in the home. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased. Consumers who are unsure if they have purchased recalled products should check with the retailer.

The CFIA reminds consumers that food contaminated with the Staphylococcus toxin may not look or smell bad. The bacterial toxin produced by this bacteria is not easily destroyed at normal cooking temperatures. Even if the product is stored in the freezer, it should be thrown out.

Common symptoms of food poisoning from Staphylococcus include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and fever. In severe cases, symptoms may progress and include headache, muscle cramping and changes in blood pressure and pulse rate. There have been no illnesses reported with this recall, and the CFIA is verifying the products have been removed from the marketplace.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear friend Karen Graham, who served as Editor-at-Large at Digital Journal. She was 78 years old. Karen's view of what is happening in our world was colored by her love of history and how the past influences events taking place today. Her belief in humankind's part in the care of the planet and our environment has led her to focus on the need for action in dealing with climate change. It was said by Geoffrey C. Ward, "Journalism is merely history's first draft." Everyone who writes about what is happening today is indeed, writing a small part of our history.
