article imageReview: Chopped champion Maria Petridis featured on 'G Thing' with Mr. G Special

By Markos Papadatos     Jan 30, 2017 in Food
Bayside - Bayside chef, Maria Petridis, who recently won "Chopped" on the Food Network, has been featured on "G Thing," which is hosted by Mr. G, PIX11's weatherman.
She taught Mr. G some Greek dance moves, prior to introducing him to her authentic Greek cuisine at her restaurant, Maria's Mediterranean Seafood & Grill, which is located on Bell Boulevard in Bayside, Queens.
Petridis noted that she grew up in Serres, as a farm girl, and she learned how to cook by watching her mother cook for the family. Back where she grew up, there was no phone to pick up for delivery, so she would have to chase chickens to kill and make a meal. Both of her parents emphasized the values of hard work.
Most impressive about Petridis is that she moved with her husband from Greece to America 28 years ago, and they learned English by watching cartoons. They have three kids, and her greatest dream came true when her husband bought her a restaurant, which he named in her honor, which was a total thrill for Petridis.
Each day, she is responsible for cooking, chopping and preparing her eloquent meals for her patrons. Winning Chopped on the episode that was televised on December 27, 2016, was an incredible feeling for Petridis, especially since she donated the $10,000 monetary prize to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
