Savannah - Cooking, southern foods, and, more recently, healthy recipes are synonymous with the Deen Family. Brothers Bobby and Jaime were the celebrity guests at the Savannah Book Festival where they signed copies of their books, and mom was there to show support.
Publishers Weekly states, "More than 9,000 attendees descended on Telfair and Wright Squares, and the Trustees Theatre, for the 7th annual Savannah Book Festival this past weekend in Savannah, Ga." Wiley Cash was quoted as saying, "this may be just about the best weekend you can have."
Helping to make it one of the best weekends anyone could have was the Special Celebrity Book Signing event at the 2014 Savannah Book Festival that featured the Deen brothers, Bobby and Jaime. The Deen Brothers Signing Tent was in the heart of Telfair Square and Bobby and Jaime were scheduled for a two-hour appearance, from noon to 2 p.m. Digital Journal arrived on the scene about 15 minutes before the Deens were scheduled to depart.

The Deen Bros were signing copies of their recent cookbooks, Bobby Deen's Everday Eats and Good Food, for fans. Bobby and Jaime have co-authored four books, The Deen Bros. Cookbook-Recipes From the Road (2007), Y'all Come Eat (2008), Take It Easy (2009) and Get Fired Up (2011). In addition, Bobby was the host of "Not My Mama's Meals" and Jaime is the host of "Home for Dinner," both on the Food Network.

The sons, and their shows and cookbooks, are, of course, influenced by their "mama," Paula Deen. The line of fans in front of the Deen Brothers Signing Tent was there to have cookbooks signed by Jaime and Bobby; however, the folks lined-up at the side of the tent were there to visit with, and have their pictures taken with, the influential and still popular Paula Deen. Paula was there with two of her dogs, one of whom can be seen in the photo below.

When Paula was talking with one family about children, the parents of the youngsters pictured below said they are "Irish twins." Paula spoke of how much she wanted to have children and said she "is thankful that God blessed her with two."

It was about 2:30 p.m. when I noticed that the line in front of the Deen Brothers Signing tent had dwindled-down and Bobby and Jaime were getting read to leave. As I walked toward the table, Jaime looked squarely at me and said he thought he recognized me. I told him we met two years ago at the 9th annual Chicago American Diabetes Association EXPO. He graciously invited me inside the tent where he introduced me to his "eldest son, Jack." Not long after, Jaime, Jack, and Bobby left the signing tent.

Shortly thereafter, Paula looked around into the signing tent and saw that her sons were gone. She exclaimed, with a smile on her face, "I'm here to support my sons, and they took off without me." But, there were still people waiting in line to meet her, so she stepped away from the tent and got in the line with her fans.

The celebrity chef and owner of The Lady & Sons in Savannah was all-smiles that afternoon, which is not surprising. Deen was surrounded by adoring and supportive fans and, only days before, she announced the formation of a new enterprise, Paula Deen Ventures. According to Bloomberg Businessweek, "Najafi Cos., a private equity operation in Phoenix...will be pouring around $75 million to $100 million into the venture."

To add to her happiness, Deen did connect with her youngest son, Jaime, and his son, Jack, for a family photo before they left the 2014 Savannah Book Festival.
