article imageOmmegang Brewery releases its latest Game of Thrones themed beer

By William Suphan     May 14, 2014 in Food
Beer lovers who are also fans of HBO's Game of Thrones have reason to rejoice as Ommegang Brewery releases its fourth brew based on the show.
First, there was Iron Throne Blonde Ale. Then there was Take the Black Stout, followed by Fire and Blood Red Ale. Now, Ommegang Brewery reveals it's latest concoction: Valar Morghulis Dubbel Ale.
Valar Morghulis means "All men must die" in the show's Valyrian language. The phrase has been uttered by several characters in the show, but is perhaps best known as spoken by Arya Stark, who utters it with the intent to avenge most of her family as she recites the names of those she wishes to slay. The phrase was given to her along with a two-sided coin by Braavosi "Faceless Man" Jaqen H'ghar, who acted as a sort of protector to Arya for a time.
The style and name of the beer are a result of a Facebook contest which included options such as Seven Kingdoms Trippel, Hand of the King Quad, and Khal Quad.
Mashable reports that the brew will be released this fall for $8.50 per 24.5 oz bottle. The phrase "Valar Dohaeris," meaning "all men must serve" will be fire-branded onto each cork. It is the traditional response to "Valar Morghulis."
HBO's Vice President, Josh Goodstadt, says "The fan base for Game of Thrones keeps growing larger as each new season debuts, and the popularity of the beers is growing right along with the show. For this fourth beer, we found the perfect opportunity to give those diehard fans the power to choose what beer they wanted to drink.”
It is yet unknown as to whether there will be pairings of these brews along with the deaths of major characters.
