article imageFrito-Lay: Nationwide recall of potato chips in Canada and U.S.

By Karen Graham     Apr 22, 2017 in Food
Frito-Lay announced on Friday it is voluntarily recalling a select variety of their jalapeno flavored potato chips due to the potential presence of Salmonella in the seasoning. This is a nationwide recall in Canada and the U.S.
The Frito-Lay recall is limited to the company's Jalapeno Flavored Lay’s Kettle Cooked potato chips and Jalapeno Flavored Miss Vickie’s Kettle Cooked potato chips, according to the FDA's announcement released on April 21, 2017.
This action is taken as a direct result of a supplier's recent recall of a seasoning blend that includes jalapeno powder that could contain salmonella. The supplier has not been named. No salmonella was found in the seasoning supplied to Frito-Lay, however, out of an abundance of caution, the company made the decision to recall these products, according to Frito-Lay.
The products under this recall were distributed to retailers and via foodservice, vending and other channels throughout the United States and Canada. Individual chip packages may have been included in the company's variety packs. All sizes of the recalled products have a “guaranteed fresh” date of JUL 4 or prior printed on the front upper panel of the package.
The following products were distributed in the U.S.:
Jalapeño Flavored Lay’s Kettle Cooked potato chips
Jalapeño Flavored Miss Vickie’s Kettle Cooked potato chips
All of the following multipack offerings that have a “use by” date of JUN 20 or prior printed on the multipack package.
Additionally, recalled products may also be in variety packs, and will have a "guaranteed fresh" date of JUL 4 on the package. Any other products or flavors contained in these multipacks are not being recalled.
Recalled product packages may be inside each multipack offering.
