Executive Chef Stephen Rosenbluth talks Anchor Down Bar & Grill (Includes interview)

For two consecutive years, his restaurant was named “Best Seafood Restaurant” in the “Best of Long Island” competition, and rightfully so; moreover, it garnered a glowing review from Digital Journal. “I am very happy about that,” he said, referring to the “Best of Long Island” recognition. “We just try to put out the best quality food that we could. It’s simple food, but it’s good food.”

“Anchor Down has been here for three years. This is our fourth summer,” Rosenbluth said. “My wife thought of the name. She liked the name, cause she figured that Anchor Down is a place that’s here to stay. So far so good,” he added.

Rosenbluth continued, “I’m proud that my wife and I did this together, and we accomplished something here. We are in the process of opening our second restaurant now.”

He noted that the most popular item on the Anchor Down menu are the “fish tacos.” “We change the menu in the fall, and every holiday we have a special menu. We are famous for our corned beef here. In a seafood restaurant, the whole neighborhood comes down for our corned beef,” he said.

When asked what motivates him each day, the esteemed chef said, “Going to work and thinking of what fish I’m going to use, and what’s seasonal, what’s fresh and what’s available. Making a living for my family motivates me, and bringing enjoyment to people for their nights and weekends. The food business motivates me. I’m a restaurant person. That’s what I do.”

Rosenbluth defined the word success as “Providing for your family, and to provide a good environment for your guests, and a quality product.” “Also, freshness. I cannot stress enough freshness, especially with food. People want fresh-tasting food,” he underscored.
