The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) published the Class 1 recall notice on February 3, 2017, stating that one batch of Loblaw’s PC Organics Apple, Blueberry and Green Pea baby food was under the recall notice after a customer complaint.
The CFIA notice reports the recalled product may have been sold at Loblaw stores across the country and there is a chance that the bacteria, Clostridium botulinum may form in the containers.
CTV News Canada is reporting the following packages are under this recall notice: PC Organics, Apple, Blueberry & Green Pea strained baby food, 128 mL size, with the product number: 2017 OC 31, 0 60383 06292 7. This is the only product being recalled.
Consumers are asked to check to see if they have this product in their homes. The recalled product should be thrown out or returned to the place of purchase.
The agency reminds us that food contaminated with C. botulinum toxin may not look or smell bad, but it can still make you sick. Symptoms of illness can include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, blurred or double vision, dry mouth, respiratory failure, and paralysis. In severe cases of illness, people may die.
As of today, there have been no reported illnesses associated with this recall, although the company says the notice was triggered by a customer complaint. The CFIA is continuing to investigate this incident.
