While Texas-based Blue Bell Creameries remains under the watchful eye of federal and state investigators related to the deadly multi-state Listeria outbreak that forced a halt in production in late 2015, this recall is slightly different.
Blue Bell quietly began recalling two flavors of Cookie Dough ice cream after “intensified internal testing” revealed the Listeria contamination. Blue Bell notified Garner, Iowa-based Aspen Hills Inc., the supplier of the chocolate chip cookie dough pieces used in the ice cream, about the test results.
Aspen Hills Inc. then issued a voluntary recall of the products supplied to Blue Bell. According to the notice posted by Blue Bell, the company is initiating this recall out of an abundance of caution. This recall is being conducted in cooperation with the FDA.
