Bell - L.A. Lucky Import & Export Inc. of Bell, California announced it is voluntarily recalling L.A. Lucky Brand Basil Seeds in 2.1 oz packages due to the presence of Salmonella in the packet.
Bell, California-based L.A. Lucky Import & Export Inc. announced the recall of all their branded Sweet Basil Seeds in 2.1 ounce, clear plastic packages bearing a UPC#820678201697. There are no other codes on the product package, according to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notice posted May 23, 2017.
The recalled product was imported from Vietnam and the L.A. Lucky company did not disclose the total volume of the basil seeds in this recall which includes packets that were sold in retail stores nationwide from October 2015 through May 15 this year. The company also appears to have very little in the way of traceability information on this product, either, other than the UPC Code.
According to a press release, the potential for contamination was noted after routine testing by the company revealed the presence of Salmonella in some 2.1-ounce packages of L.A. Lucky Brand Basil Seeds.
According to the FDA notice of the recall, there have not been any reported illnesses related to the recalled basil seeds. The L.A. Lucky company says they have detained the seeds remaining in their possession.
Customers who purchased these recalled products should dispose of the product. To receive a full refund or replacement product of their choice, customers may email the company at or call 323-224-0211, Mon-Fri, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. PST.
It is important to note that Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
