One dead in CHP related crash

A California Highway Patrol officer was involved in a vehicle accident late Monday evening with another driver in Amador County in the foothills of Northern California. The CHP officer was watching a vehicle in the opposing lane which had just passed her at a high rate of speed and didn’t notice the car in front of her had slowed significantly to make a turn onto a side road.

KCRA first reported the accident on Tuesday morning noting that the CHP patrol car struck the rear of a Toyota Camry which was then forced into the opposing lane of traffic where it struck another car head-on.
KVGC later reported the driver of the car which was struck by the CHP patrol car was driven by a resident of nearby Plymouth, 64 year-old Alice Suzanne Goudie.

The officer involved in the crash plus the driver of the Toyota Matrix, as reported by the Sacramento Bee, both incurred moderate injuries and were taken to local hospitals for treatment. The 69 year-old Rancho Murietta driver of the Matrix was unidentified as well as the officer. There is no word yet on whether or not the officer will be placed on leave until the incident is fully investigated.
The weather in the area at the time was clear, but cold. The accident occurred at 11:15 p.m. on Monday night.
