Barcelona - A 20-year-old man posted a YouTube of himself, driving from the passenger seat of his car on a highway near Barcelona in Spain. He has now received a six-month suspended sentence for his stupidity.
Here's something you definitely shouldn't try at home, as the results could be devastating.
Apparently the young man concerned is the Spanish-born son of a French family. He decided to have a little fun, and made a video of himself driving along on the highway.
While at first it appears he is speaking to the driver of the car, yawning as if a little bored, it turns out that he was the one who was driving, but from the wrong side of the car. What was worse, he even overtook a large truck during his "daring" drive down the highway.
After spotting the video on YouTube, Spanish police sent a tweet asking for assistance in identifying the driver.
The video description reads, "From the National Police: we are looking for this irresponsible person whose criminal conduct carries enormous risks for the safety of all. Collaborate with us to put him off the road."
Within 13 hours, the police received 40 replies from followers. After the driver was positively identified, he then apparently handed himself in to the police.
Now the young man has been found guilty of reckless driving and has been handed a six-month suspended sentence. All will be well and the sentence will be dismissed as long as the young man does not break the law again within the next two years. His driver's license, however, has been suspended for one year.
The National Police in Spain has a strong and active social media presence, with over 900,000 followers on Twitter, which works well towards solving many different and varied crimes in the country.
