Toronto - Toronto's annual celebration of all things arts, Luminato, has announced a new series of high-profile shows called the Premiere Series, featuring a tribute to legendary musician Daniel Lanois, a "wild" stage show by Isabella Rossellini and more.
“The premiere series really embodies what Luminato Festival is about–a celebration of amazing talent from Canada and around the world,” said artistic director Jorn Weisbrodt, in a statement.
Most notably the Premiere Series will feature "Sleeping in the Devil's Bed: The Music of Daniel Lanois." The show will serve as a celebration of the famed musician who has worked with U2, Bob Dylan and Neil Young among others. The evening, June 10 at Massey Hall, will celebrate five decades of Lanois music as a slew of musicians interpret his work. Lanois will also participate in the show.
Isabella Rossellini's Green Porno, June 6-7 at the Winter Garden theatre, looks to be an interesting piece of theatre, drawing from her short films of the same name and serves as an examination of the love life of animals. While the stage version has premiered in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, and numerous other cities, this will mark its Toronto debut.
Finally, New Zealand choreographer Lemi Ponifasio will present Stones in Her Mouth, which draws on the Maori tradition of women in poetry and writing. It will bring together 10 Maori women for an evening of song and dance. It will run June 12-14 at the MacMillan Theatre.
While the rest of Luminato's programming has yet to be announced, this looks to elevate the festival to even higher status. Tickets for all three events will be available tomorrow, February 14, at noon.
