Loma Linda - A deeply touching video shows a father singing Paul McCartney's song "Blackbird" to his dying newborn son a few days after his wife and mother of the baby died in childbirth.
The video was uploaded to YouTube on Nov. 12 by K.C. Hohensee, Campus Ministries Coordinator of Student Events & Outreach at Loma Linda University. He shot the video at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Loma Linda University.
The video showing Chris Picco serenading his dying newborn son, Lennon James Picco, lying in an incubator at the hospital Intensive Care Unit, has gone viral with over 300,000 views.
Tragically, the baby passed away, quietly, in his father's arms, the next day, only four days old.
The brave father found the courage to serenade his newborn son even while grieving the death of the mother, Ashley Picco, 30, who died a few days earlier in childbirth.
The young mother died last Saturday, after she was rushed to the Loma Linda University Hospital for an emergency C-section to deliver her son Lennon at just 24 weeks, weighing only a little over 2 pounds.

Chris was inspired to play "Blackbird" to comfort his dying son after recalling that while he was in his mother's womb he would often move to the sound of music. The baby's mother had told Chris that she often felt the baby moving inside her in response to the beat of music. So Chris obtained permission from the medical staff to bring a guitar and play for his son.
In a message to supporters after the baby died, heartbroken Chris wrote:
"My little fighter, Lennon James Picco went to sleep in his daddy's arms late last night. He was surrounded by family, friends, and the best doctors, nurses and hospital staff in the world. He was dressed in an outfit that Ashley bought for him, with little guitars on it, and wrapped in a blanket made by a dear friend.

"I'm so thankful for the four unforgettable days I got to spend with him. His mommy would have been so beyond joy to see him and to hold him, touch him, bathe him, sing to him- as I have had the privilege of doing.
"I have been so blessed and honored to love him before he was formed, to cherish him while mommy carried him, meet him face to precious face, and hold his perfect little body while we said 'goodbye for now.'
"There are no words, but I wanted to keep you updated, as your love and support has meant more than anything in the world. All you need is love."
The family wrote in a message:
"Our dear Ashley’s life was tragically, devastatingly cut short this past weekend. Her dear baby flickered briefly for a few days after.
"But her song continues, the harmony enriching our lives, still, to be continued until in the Heavenly Kingdom, when we will all sing the Song of Moses and the Lamb.
"And Lennon James will add his sweet voice to the family reunion on Resurrection day, as daddy Chris joins in the most precious of all songs he sang in his life, and all the praying friends and family will join in lifting their Hallelujahs for eternity."

The statement continued: "Ashley’s light shone far, her song was heard, and her sweet personality and gentle giving soul inspired us, and will continue to do so.
"Your life mattered, Ashley. And much-loved baby boy Lennon James, we will see you again. You belonged to all of us."
Chris has received massive support on Reddit. He set up a memorial fund, Ashley Picco Memorial Fund, in memory of his late wife Ashley. It has received over $70,000 in donations from supporters worldwide. The money, according to the memorial page, will be used to cover medical expenses.
A message to supporters posted to the memorial page reads:
"Ashley Picco was a rare light, a gracious care giver, and deeply in love with her husband Chris.
"They were looking forward to becoming parents and raising their son together. Tragically and unexpectedly her life was cut short."

In a post to his Facebook page, Hohensee, who shot the video, said:
"There are times in life, when you witness something so beautiful, and so heart-wrenching, words won't do, and only music will suffice. This is one of those times.
"Cannot express the gratitude I have for being a live witness to this special time between Chris & Lennon. Absolutely moving and a life-changing moment for me."
A memorial service will be held on Saturday for Ashley and Lennon Picco.
