article imageVideo: ISIS fighters barter Yazidi girls on 'slave market day'

By JohnThomas Didymus     Nov 3, 2014 in Internet
Mosul - A video has emerged online showing ISIS fighters haggling delightedly over Yazidi ethnic minority women and girls on "slave market day." According to the militants, good-looking, green-eyed or blue-eyed girls with good teeth fetch the best prices.
In the chilling footage uploaded to YouTube, a gleeful looking man, stroking his full beard contentedly, says to the camera: "Today is the slave market [distribution] day. Today is the day where this verse applies, (he appears to quote from a religious text) 'except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess... for (then) they are not to be blamed.'"
One exclaims expectantly, "I swear man, I am searching for a girl, hope I find one."
Another man shouts repeatedly in gleeful anticipation, "Where is my Yazidi girl?"
His companions laugh, while one says, "Today is slave market [distribution] day God willing. Each man will have his share."
A man comes forward, saying he has a slave girl to barter. The men offer prices with one proposing five banknotes which the English subtitling, provided by the Arabic Al Aan TV, explains is equivalent to about 100 dollars each.
The seller indicates that he is willing to barter his slave girl for a Glock, a widely-used handgun.
However, the buyers are cautious; they want to see the girl before they name a price for her. They explain they would willingly pay higher price for a good looking girl. One says specifically he will have to check the girl's teeth.
"If she doesn't have teeth, why would I want her?"
We also learn that girls with blue or green eyes fetch premium prices at the slave market.
The militants ask a boy who appears in the video if he would like to have a "Yazidi slave." The boy nods affirmative. The men tease him, one asking, "Can you handle her?"

ISIS recently boasted in its English propaganda magazine Dabiq, that it has captured hundreds of Iraqi women from the ethnic minority Yazidi sect and divided them among fighters "according to Sharia law."
According to a recent report by Amnesty International, ISIS captured hundreds of Yazidi women and children during the offensive in northern Iraq and the Mount Sinjar region in August, killing about 5,000 Yazidis. Some of the women were sold into slavery, others were distributed among ISIS militants as part of the spoils of war and many were sent to brothels in Syria and Iraq.
Those militants who received "their share" of slave women and girls are allowed to trade them on "slave market day" for money or barter them for other valuable items such as guns.
The news media recently carried the story of a young Yazidi woman captured in Sinjar in August and kept as a sex slave.
The girl was raped so many times that using the toilet became unbearably painful making her contemplate suicide. Another girl, only 15 years old, told of her ordeal after she was captured in the Sinjar massacre. She said she escaped from jihadists who bought her as a slave by drugging and then shooting them.
The girl's identity is being kept secret to protect her from reprisals.
The video has not been confirmed independently. But according to the UK Independent, the accents of the men suggest that are Saudis.
If confirmed, the video, reportedly shot in Mosul, Iraq's second largest city, after ISIS fighters captured it in June, gives additional insight into the practice of enslaving young women for sexual exploitation among ISIS militants.
Charlie Winter, an activist with Quilliam Foundation, said: "One thing that is striking is that individuals who are usually first to denounce footage of this kind as part of a 'dishonest' campaign against Isis have instead recognized it. It seems to sit well with them, and I’ve seen this shared widely across the usual platforms."
The Sunni ISIS extremists consider the Yazidis the worst kind of infidels being "devil worshipers" who follow a religion of ancient origins in the region. The religion of the Yazidis reportedly combines Sufism with elements of the Zoroastrian religion of ancient Persia.
