Buenos Aires - The dramatic video of the attempted armed robbery of a tourist in Buenos Aires, Argentina is spreading across the Internet.
Vancouver resident Alex Hennessy was enjoying a bicycle tour along the street of Buenos Aires. As Hennessy and his fellow tourists peddled along, a man on a motorcycle pulls directly into Hennessy's path. Hennessy avoids hitting the motorcycle and continues along the path. The motorcyclist again pulls up to Hennessy, points a gun at him and demands that Hennessy give the robber his backpack.
When the gunman put the gun away, Hennessy abandons his bicycle, but not his backpack.
Hennessy attempts to run to safety, but is caught by the armed robber. The two men struggle until Hennessy's friend, Mike Graziano, sees the struggle and rushes to help Hennessy. Now faced with fighting two men, the gunman thankfully chooses not to shot the men and instead flees the area.
According to The Independent, Hennessy and Graziano were in Argentina as part of "Global degree", a travel program in which participants visit 195 countries in 60 months.
Hennessy was wearing a GoPro helmet cam at the time of the robbery, capturing dramatic footage of the robbery attempt. It was uploaded to YouTube on September 16th and has already been viewed more than 5 million times.
Hennessy described the ordeal, telling CBC:
"I was on a bike tour in a rough part of Buenos Aires in broad daylight when a thief attempted to steal my camera gear at gunpoint. I miraculously happened to be recording with a GoPro on my forehead and captured this amazing piece of footage."
