Trump-Clinton debate put to music, karaoke style

The second debate between Trump and Clinton had a town hall format. Instead of standing behind podiums, both presidential candidates held microphones and slowly walked around the stage while speaking and looking at each other. With the sound turned off, no one could be faulted for thinking they looked like they were singing a romantic duet rather than embroiled in an often times nasty debate.

So some enterprising people created and posted memes of The Donald and Hillary singing romantic karaoke songs to each other. Several of these memes were posted on the Chinese social media platform, Weibo. In true karaoke style, the words “sung” by both Trump and Clinton were posted on the screen in red letters for Trump and white for Clinton.

As Quartz reports, one meme has Trump singing, “Do you know that my heart is…” while Clinton replies, “Desires true love.” In a second meme, Trump sings, “I look forward to you discovering my love,” while Clinton sings, “My love for you is everywhere.”

A third Chinese meme has Trump, who is standing some distance away from Clinton, singing, “Hey you, please come closer to my embrace.” Clinton then replies, “Don’t pretend you don’t care as you obviously felt something.”

All the lyrics came from songs popular in China.

If you cannot really appreciate the Chinese lyrics, not to worry. There is an English version. A portion of the debate was set to the song, (Iv’e Had) the Time of My Life from the 1980s hit movie Dirty Dancing. The presidential candidates really did look like they could have been in love.

As Mashable so eloquently pointed out, “It’s time to make American sing again.”
