North Carolina woman’s scary road rage ouburst caught on video

Sherri Hastings, who drives a car with a handicapped license plate, began recording on her cellphone when she noticed that the woman driving a SUV in front of her on a Saturday morning was showing mounting signs of road rage aggression by driving erratically, stopping intermittently and weaving dangerously on the road.

Hastings posted the video, titled, “Road Rage Terrorized Child 3:00 Min Mark” to her YouTube account on Monday. The YouTube video has since received nearly 1 million views. She gave a copy to the police and sent another to WGHP-TV (MyFox8.com) with the comment:

“I knew what was going to happen. I wanted it on tape. Twice the lady tried to pass me on a two-lane road with double lines on a hill. She about ran me off road first time. She got behind me a second time and then went to go around again. I let her have the road, called 911, and reported her and her plate number… I started phone video which was in a holder on dashboard — hands free.”

According to Hastings, she was driving in Randleman when a woman, later identified as 40-year-old Kristin Leigh Phillips of Randleman, N.C., tried to “slam into her” and run her off a two-lane road in a 35 mph speed zone. After Phillips passed, Hastings began filming the car being driven dangerously in front of her car, stopping frequently and weaving erratically on the road.

Hastings says, “Wish I had another phone, somebody call 911.”

Her 6-year-old granddaughter asks, “Mama why?”

“Because this person in front of me is being a real character. She tried to slam into me when we were going through the 35 mph speed zone,” the grandmother answers.

Phillips finally stops her SUV in the middle of the road and gets out to confront Hastings.

She approaches Hastings threateningly, screaming and cursing, “You g*dd**n f***ing following someone behind their g**d**n ass, you stupid g*dd**n bitch!”

She attempts to grab Hastings through the driver’s side window. Hastings raises her window quickly to avoid being physically assaulted. Phillips pounds on the glass and on the body of the car.

Hastings’ shocked granddaughter begins to cry and Hastings shouts “stop it!” at the enraged woman.

Phillips eventually returns to her SUV, yelling and cursing as she walks away. She shouts, “F..k you,” raising middle fingers at Hastings.

Hastings eventually gave the video to the police. Randolph County Sheriff’s deputies posted the footage to Facebook as part of efforts to identify Phillips through tips from the public. However, Phillips managed to elude deputies for several hours before she finally turned herself in late on Monday at about 10 p.m., according to Daily News.

She was charged with “reckless driving to endanger, assault and battery, injury to personal property, driving left of center and two counts of communicating threats,” according to WGHP.

Expressing shock at Phillips’ behavior, Detective Sgt. Bernie Maness said, “This is a grandmother with a handicapped sign and child in the car. We don’t do that here.”
