The Observer reported that Trump’s supposed lawyers had sent a Cease and Desist request to a kid called Lucy in San Francisco to shut down a website called Trump Scratch and end the Kitten Terror stalking the land.
Lucy changed the name of the website to Kittenfeed.com, but the lawyers are still after her. There’s an issue here – Under Fair Use, anyone and anything are fair game for satire. Lucy has a right to use materials for that purpose, and the First Amendment (Remember that, guys?) also backs up her right to free speech. The C&D could be interpreted as an attack on Lucy’s right to free speech quite easily.
(Kittenfeed.com got so many hits that it went down several times. Might be an idea to make sure it doesn’t go down, because the instant interpretation would be that someone illegally shut it down, or hacked it, either way a possible offence.)
Meanwhile – According to The Observer, Trump’s actual lawyers now say they didn’t send the C&D, and some third party PR firm says that The Observer never called. The Observer saw the letter requesting the takedown, and they did call the Trump Organization. Denial won’t work.
It’s hardly necessary to repeat the endless hostile information and rumours circulating about Trump. It’s not news that the world’s easiest human target has a pretty grim relationship with so many news organizations.
The surprising thing is the total lack of recognition of the genuine hatred he’s generating from so many different directions. I would actually prefer to believe this was a made up story, just for the sake of believing in some form of rational explanation for this extraordinary story.
If the “grab them by the pussy” statement was almost unspeakably inelegant, this is the denouement. Trump might want to consider other, much less cute anti-Trump merchandise which is now circulating freely around the world in every possible form. Unlike the made-up fake news from the depths of the net, this is real hate.
What doesn’t seem to be penetrating either is the fact that the President of the United States is now getting more negative press per hour than most people get in their lifetimes. That’s NOT good for the US. The national image is now blurred beyond recognition.
The psych stuff for the hicks like “Get over it” and “He won” isn’t working on the real majority, either, for a good reason. There’s one year until the Congressional mid-terms. Enough hate can destroy the House and Senate majority.
It’s hard to believe that professional politicians can’t see the risks, yet the “Antagonize Everyone” circus goes on. This could be the pussy that grabs a death grip on a level of credibility which can’t even be quantified any more.
