article imageOp-Ed: Changes in Journalism Better or Worse?

By Charity Tipton     Mar 30, 2014 in Internet
Harrison - Some say that Journalism has changed for the better and some saw for the worse. I honestly believe that it can go both ways.
Journalists have been writing and reporting news for so many years and seems like every decade it changes. Some changes are for the better and some are for the worse. Everyone has their opinion and here is mine. I believe that it is a little of both. While technology has helped in some ways it has hindered as well. It is all in how you look at it.
I will agree that you can find information all over the internet not just from your computers but also from phones and tablets. Google and Bing are great resources for looking for links to get information from by only putting in a general description of what you are looking for. You can type in one word and get provided with hundreds of links related directly or vaguely to the subject you are researching. By doing this, journalists are more tempted to depend on this information and not look as far into the sources as they should. It also give you more ways to contact sources on the different subjects like through email and message boards.
I also feel that the changes in journalism has hindered as well because like I stated before the journalists are more tempted to go with information that they find online rather than speaking to people in person. Even though Google and Bing offer an unlimited amount of links to use as resources you don't really know how accurate the information is that you are getting from those sites where speaking to someone in person can get you more accurate information.
No matter how you look at journalism, or anything for that matter, changes can be good or bad but it is all about how you use them.
