Fox 8 explains that Richard Dunn, a lighting designer for corporate entertainment, was offered vouchers to be bumped off two consecutive flights on Delta Airlines. His scheduled flight time was 6 a.m. the next morning, leaving him stranded overnight.
“I thought, well I don’t have enough time to go to a hotel so what do I do?” he told CBC. “I’ve got my phone and an empty movie set, lets see what trouble I can get into.”
He looked up songs on travel but didn’t feel inspired — until he started Googling songs about being alone, and then came across Celine Dion’s “All By Myself.” Then he spent the rest of the night recording himself lip-synching the power ballad. He told CBC that Celine Dion is one of his guilty pleasures it didn’t take him long to learn the words.
To record, he waited until 2 a.m., when most of the airport had cleared out. Then he got some tape from a mechanic, which he used to fasten his iPhone to a ruler. Then he sandwiched the pole between his two luggage bags to make a tripod, and the filming began.
The video sees Dunn lip-synching in front of bathrooms, escalators and more. Dunn said the airport’s cleaning crews were surprisingly undeterred by his activity.
