Instagram rolls out longer videos to the public

Roughly two years after launching the video feature to the public, Instagram has made another big step, 60 second videos.
Almost two years after rolling out the video feature to users, Instagram announced on its site Tuesday that its next big step is 60 second videos.
In January, the company allowed advertisers the option to longer videos, and now the public will have the same privilege. Soon you’ll be able to show off your favorite memories at once, instead of posting several clips back-to-back to accommodate the 15-second time limit. According to the announcement ,“We want to bring you fun, flexible and creative ways to create and watch video on Instagram.”
The new addition to the popular photo-sharing app will prove it to be a bigger, better platform to showcase creative work, as now they’ve positioned themselves where no other platform compares, not even YouTube or Snapchat. Who would want to search for a five to 15-minute video, when you’ll most likely be able to find the same content compressed into a one-minute post?
This is not a very surprising update as Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers’ (KPCB) 2014 study on internet trends led to the conclusion that Instagram is the most important social network for people between the ages of 12 and 24, while it’s the second most used social media site, next to Facebook (Fig. 1).
The previous update used algorithms to prioritize posts that users are interested or engaged with. Don’t worry though, be prepared for their next announcement as, “this is one step of many you’ll see this year.”
*The update rolled out earlier this week and will be available to everyone in the upcoming months, so longer cat videos are coming to a device near you.
