Mauthausen camp was liberated on May 12 1945

The nazi concentration camp in southern Austria, Mauthausen, was liberated by United States troops on May 12, 1945. Many of the inmates were Spanish communists who were put to work in the quarry as slave labourers. The commemorative service on Saturday May 9 2009 attended by 7,000 people was greeted by neonazis who gave the Hitler salute.
