Hurricane Protection

Graphically represented here are three main hurricane protection systems designed to protect New Orleans and surrounding parishes from flooding that can be caused by hurricanes. The responsibility for the design and construction of the system of levees that failed during Katrina belongs to the United States Army Corps of Engineers, but the maintenance is undertaken by local levee boards.
