Histowiki.com Announces New Timeline Of Google Sites

Histowiki.com is proud to announce the launch of a new timeline focused on the Google Sites platform. The latest timeline highlights feature changes to Google’s entry into the website platform space, as well as the ‘origin story.’ To read about the timeline in further detail, click here: History Of The Google Sites Platform.

The new post has interesting facts about Google Sites, including that it originally started out as JotSpot. On February 28, 2008, Google Sites was unveiled, using the JotSpot technology for free, with a domain purchase. It could be said that it was clearly trying to divert users from competitors like WordPress. This later became 100% free without a domain in May of that same year. Google Sites was originally described as a tool that could be used to swiftly gather a variety of information in one place, from videos and calendars to presentations, attachments and text. From here, it could easily be shared with a small group, an organization or the world for multiple purposes.

Google’s help page addresses the question, “What can you do with Sites?” In reply they state, “When you create a new site, it’s automatically added to Drive, like your other files stored in Drive. You can edit a Google Site together with someone else in real time, and see each other’s changes live. Publish the site for everyone to see, or restrict sharing permissions and make the site accessible only to people you want to share it with, like vendors or suppliers.”

Google Sites websites are responsive, which means they are compatible with and optimized for tablets and smartphones, too. The platform has had many upgrades since its 2008 launch that coincided with the majority of browsing users moving from their desktops to mobile devices. Google made a wise move in making sure websites built with Google Sites were updated with regard to that behavior, allowing them to be responsive on smaller screens. One of the advantages of Google is its integration with Google’s GSuite, which was first launched in 2006 as Google Apps for Your Domain. A frequently used comparative description for GSuite and all of its functions is ‘Microsoft Office meets Cpanel.’ Learn more here: Timelines About Technology.

Histowiki.com has also launched a new timeline about the Historical Societies in the United States of America. The Histowiki website is reaching out to readers and history enthusiasts all over the country by doing so. This marks the latest step the platform has taken in their mission to make US history more accessible to the general public.

“We have put together this new resource to help our readers all across the country find new ways to connect with history and learn more about it,” states Jimmy Thompson of Histowiki. He further states, “We know how frustrating it can be to feel passionate about something and have no one to discuss the topic with as we have had first-hand experiences with the difficulties of promoting the value of a passion for history. That is why we endeavor to help historical societies facilitate their own ability to reach their like-minded audience. This new resource accomplishes just that, and through it, we hope to inspire new people to take an interest in the rich history of our country and help grow our beautiful communities.” Learn more here: Directory Of Historical Societies.

While the various Historical Societies listed on Histowiki.com originate from regions all across the country, they all share at least two things in common: their passion for history (including the history of technological improvements and creations) and a strong desire to preserve it. While most of these communities focus on different areas of history, it is welcome to all people with myriad interests to take part and educate themselves.

Histowiki is a crowdsourced reference platform where history can be curated. All the curators are responsible for moderating their topic as well as stimulating discussion and maintaining relevance to historical events with all site visitors. New visitors are welcomed with open arms and encouraged to participate in the various topics of discussion frequently brought up on their site.
