Black Fashion Matters Announces Fashion Virtual Showcase Following New York Fashion Week

The livestream September 17 marks the first time Black Fashion Matters presents a virtual fashion show

(PRUnderground) September 1st, 2020

Black Fashion Matters is launching its first Fashion Virtual Showcase immediately following New York Fashion Week. The organization is inviting social media influencers, mainstream media reporters, and the public to attend the YouTube livestream September 17 from 5-7 pm.

Black Fashion Matters celebrates Black fashion designers, beauty brands, and businesses. The mission is to bring together diverse local and national designers, as well as promising talents, and shine a light on the need for greater diversity in the fashion industry.

Organizer Anissa Rochester says fashion is a means to build wealth. “Black people spend more than $100 trillion annually, and that money needs to be directed to our own community,” she says, “The Fashion Virtual Showcase is an opportunity for designers to promote their fashions, statement pieces, and other vibrant reflections of our culture to a Black audience.”

Rochester says the livestream event is particularly important at this moment in our nation. “Black families are continuing the mourn the losses of their loved ones to police brutality and systemic racism,” she says, “Our hope is to showcase fashion as a means of spreading love and promoting unity among Black designers and Black-owned businesses.”

Rochester is the publisher of Beauty Within magazine, a lifestyle brand for the fashion-affluent enthusiast. The magazine has provided insider coverage during New York Fashion Week for years, as well as interviews with celebrities including Naomi Campbell, Kim Kardashian, Cardi B., and Blake Lively.

The Virtual Fashion Show will promote Black-owned businesses. The goal is to list numerous Black-owned beauty brands, online boutiques, and restaurants. Black Fashion Matters believes all Black businesses, whether large or small, have the right to be represented.

Proceeds from the Virtual Fashion Show will go towards the nonprofit Solesville Foundation, dedicated to addressing universal poverty and health disparities for children in the US, Africa, the Caribbean, and South America.
