Carol A. Stewart Elected to the Council’s Board for a Three-Year Term on Thursday, July 23

The Arizona Technology Council today announced Carol A. Stewart, associate vice president, Tech Park Arizona, The University of Arizona, has been elected to its board of directors. Stewart was elected unanimously to serve a three-year term at the Council’s quarterly board meeting held on Thursday, July 23.
“Carol’s commitment to developing tech parks has had a major educational and economic impact here in Arizona, across the country and throughout the world,” said Steven G. Zylstra, the Council’s president and CEO. “Her leadership, skill set and extensive experience will help advance our agenda, which is designed to grow Arizona’s technology industry and break down barriers that inhibit success. Carol’s election also pushes us closer to our goal of achieving gender parity on our board, a critical initiative for myself and the Council.”
Stewart’s deep expertise spans decades and nations with more than 20 years of experience working with university research parks, technology commercialization, business incubation, governmental relations and business development. Her leadership will be significant asset to the Council’s board, as well as the technology community’s continued growth. (Her biography is included below.)
The Council’s board of directors serve an advisory and fiduciary role by representing the interests of the state’s technology industries in the Council’s strategic planning and ongoing operations. The current board includes 33 members representing a diverse set of organizations.

Carol Stewart, a long-standing authority on research parks, is the associate vice president for Tech Parks Arizona at The University of Arizona. Stewart leads the UA Tech Park in Tucson and is developing the UA Tech Park at the Bridges. She is also president of The University of Arizona Center for Innovation, a technology business incubator network serving the university, Tucson and the international community.
As a pioneer in the research parks world, she has driven national policy, standardized programs, created national and international networks, built technology clusters, engaged stakeholders, and assisted countries with the development of national science and technology policies.
Stewart is passionate about her community and serves as a champion in university-based economic development. She is a member of Southern Arizona Leadership Council, Flinn Foundation and the City of Tucson Mayor’s Economic Development Advisory Council. She also serves on the boards of directors for Tucson Metro Chamber, Pima County Workforce Investment Board and Sun Corridor Inc.
Previously, Stewart served as the CEO of the Association of University Research Parks, which represents 200 research parks (80% of which are located in the United States and 20% international). In this role, she collaborated with numerous leaders worldwide to build and grow university-related research parks through education, unification and collaboration. She helped expand the organization’s international credibility by showcasing best practices to research parks across the globe.
