Inedible Jatropha bean shrubs have for years been planted in poor soil, especially in Africa and India, to create cash-crops for low-income farmers in semi-deserts. The oil, harvested at 600 gallons per acre, is used in lamp oil and antibiotic soap. Animals don't eat the shrub and it's also inedible for humans.
