London, Ontario based interior design company MatiDesign has published a new report on interior decorating for retired couples. Mati Edwards, owner of the company, has over 20 years of experience in interior design and has helped many clients enhance the natural beauty of their homes in a way that is timeless, comfortable, and works for them and their family.

Edwards continues, “Recently, I received a phone call from what sounded like a jolly and friendly gentleman. I went out to meet with him and his lovely wife to have an initial consultation. They are well into their seventies and asked me to help them redesign some areas of the home to make sure they’ll be comfortable here for many years to come.”
However, the project proved to have a unique challenge because the wife had an illness that would continue to make her life more and more difficult, eventually requiring the use of a wheelchair. This meant that MatiDesign had the task of making a home wheelchair-accessible, functional, and still beautiful.
After discussing all the options at their disposal, Edwards says she got to work making appointments with tradespeople and then preparing the home to their specifications (and then some). The team cleared out the entire place to leave room for the floors and got to work on the meat of the project. Once everything was done, some of the original furniture stayed, while many items were replaced. The team put everything back in place, along with some accessories and new art to complement their more traditional pieces.
Writing about the clients’ response to the end result, Edwards says, “They were thrilled with the changes and the results. We had exceeded beyond their expectations and wishes. It’s such an honour and a joy for me to make such positive and wonderful changes in people’s homes and their lives. Each one is always a treat and an adventure. As a society, we’re living longer, and retirement homes are just not as appealing as they once were. More and more people prefer to stay in their homes.
