The World Food Programme of the UN says the violent situation in the East Congo is becoming critical. It has stepped up its food distribution of warlord-besieged East Congo communities. The violence between these warring tribal 'rebels' is mainly over control of the valuable coltan mining deposits, warns Dutch parliamentarian Martijn van Dam in a petition to international cellphone manufacturers - who purchase the mineral in large quantities for the capacitors in such electronics
