2008-12-04 06:35:19

Here they see only "Diamonds are Forever" ads from DeBeers, while children are used to mine the diamonds there in Africa, very sad.

these children on this picture are sifting mud to get the valuable mineral coltan - not diamonds. I know of only one time where childen were used for diamond mining, and that was during the Taylor terror in Liberia when kids were kidnapped from villages to mine alluvials in Sierre Leone. A lot of kids are also used to mine the Tanzanite from mines in Tanzania however, they are forced to crawl deep into these holes and many drown when it rains. Tanzanite is an incredibly beautiful gemstone.

Sad, instead of giving them education, they are destroyed at a young age. Sounds like Blood Diamonds movie. I like diamonds but sad to hear about the background of how they are mined and how the poor are manipulated.
