How long did you wait around for this shot Bart? Do you walk a lot of trails to come across animals like you do?

    This shot is gorgeous.

    Thanks, Chris.

Actually, for this shot I did only one thing: hurry as much as I could to take it! It was a pure coincidence. I had just bought a new bike that day, and I took it out for a ride. The animal crossed the road a few metres in front of me. My camera was in my backpack, so I screeched to a halt, took the camera out, and by that time it was already at the other side of the fence. Too bad. Otherwise, I would have a shot with the animal on the road, which is what I really would have liked for it would be evidence that these animals actually run around in the city itself, not just in parks.

As to your question: yes, I do walk a lot of trails. When I started looking for snakes, I actually did what I like to call "sentry duty": walking to and fro until I saw what I wanted to see. You will never see me trampling around in nature, however. I do not believe that taking pictures justifies freaking out the animals.
