When California’s Orange County Water District detected traces of arsenic in their purified water aquifers, they enlisted the help of Stanford soil scientist Scott Fendorf to investigate how the toxic element was getting into their water supplies. The Groundwater Replenishment System is the largest water purification project of its kind in the world.
