article imageTom Cruise ends lawsuit vs. publisher who said he abandoned Suri

By Marcus Hondro     Dec 21, 2013 in Entertainment
It seems Tom Cruise has settled out-of-court with the publisher of 'Life and Style' magazine. In the aftermath of Cruise's 2012 split with actor Katie Holmes, the tabloid had written that Cruise "abandoned" his daughter, Suri, then 6.
"Tom doesn't go around suing people," Cruise attorney Bert Fields said in late 2012 when the defamation suit was launched. "He's not a litigious guy. But when these sleaze peddlers try to make money with disgusting lies about his relationship with his child, you bet he's going to sue."
Since then Fields was quoted as saying that "You can't just say he abandoned his child" and that his client was going to "push this one all the way."
Given those statements, and others, it may be reasonable to surmise that for dropping the $50 million suit, the 'Top Gun' star got something in return from publisher Bauer Media Group. However, no details were revealed other than a statement which said that each party was paying their own legal bills.
The legal team for the defendant was reportedly obtaining mental health records for Suri and prepared to do all it could to defend their client. Would Holmes have testified at a trial? Would the family's dirty laundry have come out?
Cruise may not have gotten anything back for dropping the suit, after all.
