article image'The Lego Movie' will build bigger audience than 'Monuments Men'

By Tim O'Brien     Feb 6, 2014 in Entertainment
Look out George Clooney and company, toys are about to take over the box office. "The LEGO® Movie" is already putting together what will be a fun time for many at the movies this weekend.
Meanwhile, "The Monuments Men" will make the reason why it was delayed from a late 2013 release to now, more clear. But it should do well. And why not? The movie stars an impressive cast. They are on a mission.
That mission is to save artwork during World War II. The cast includes Clooney Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin and Cate Blanchett.
Perhaps if one enjoys a bit of art history mixed with war, this will work. But it will be the assembled toys in "The Lego Movie" that will capture the masses. Old and young will snap this one up as it creates a world many wanted to create when playing with these objects. It also has the superheroes, humor and imagination.
1. "The Lego Movie" - 3,650+ theaters
2. "The Monuments Men"- 2,800+ theaters
3. "Vampire Academy"- 2,500 theaters
With "The Monuments Men" having a stellar cast, so does "The LEGO®) Movie." One may wonder if the need for such A-listers is need in animation and will that make this a hit? Probably not, people will go anyway. Perhap the budget could have been lower had they not filled it with so many of them.
Not much really needs to be said by the last wide release. "Vampire Academy" is what it is, a movie about, well, vampires. Like the subject and go or simply watch "The Vampire Diaries," and all the other shows like it on TV right now.
Advance tickets, noted Fandango and The Wrap, has "The Lego Movie" doing real well. So far, it has been better than other animated movies at this time, including "Frozen" and right behind what "Toy Story 3" did.
