According to the website of the Miami-Dade country clerk's office the charges of drag racing and D.U.I. filed against Canadian pop star Justin Bieber have been dropped. Bieber will still, it appears, face one count of resisting arrest without violence.
While media sites are reporting the charges have been dropped, to date there has been no confirmation from any Miami-Dade County officials. It may be the prosecutor has yet to decide if the charges have a reasonable chance of success and so has taken them from the website.
Bieber: drag-racing, D.U.I. charges in Miami
The charges were laid after an incident last Thursday in Miami when Bieber was pulled over for drag racing at 4 a.m.. He was charged with drag racing, with a D.U.I. and with resisting arrest without violence and let go after posting a $2,500 bail fee.
At that time police said Bieber blew under the .08 limit for alcohol consumption but that because they believed him to have smoked marijuana and used prescription pills, they felt a charge was warranted. No word on why the charges have been dropped.
Bieber, meanwhile, decamped to the beaches of Panama with an entourage that includes mentor Usher, manager Scooter Braun, childhood friend Ryan Butler, companion/model Chantel Jeffries and a host of bodyguards.
Bieber was driving a yellow Lamborghini when pulled over; along with him his friend, R&B artist Khalil, was charged with drag racing; Khalil was pulled over driving a red Ferrari. It's unclear if charges against Khalil have been dropped.
His case was before the courts Monday morning at 8:30 but he did not personally have to attend and was represented by a lawyer.
