"Welcome back to 'The Sing-Off.' Hold that note," said singing sensation Jewel, who is the reality singing competition's newest judge.
"I am especially excited to bring out this next group. Performing 'I'll Be Home for Christmas' here is 98 Degrees," Jewel added with excitement.
A Grammy-nominated vocal group, 98 Degrees is comprised of Nick Lachey, Jeff Timmons, Drew Lachey and Justin Jeffre. They all went on to sing a captivating a capella rendition of the holiday tune, "I'll Be Home For Christmas," that was nostalgic yet soothing.
The members of 98 Degrees were all dressed to impress, thus wearing black suits and ties and they were bright-colored (red or maroon).
Their version was well-received by all three judges of The Sing-Off and it subsequently garnered them a standing ovation from the studio audience, which was deserving. It was just as good as the original recording of that holiday tune on 98 Degrees' This Christmas album that was released in mid-October of 1999.
The Verdict
With their a capella live performance on The Sing-Off, 98 Degrees proved that they are still at the top of their game vocally, and they did not need any heavy instrumentation or over-production to make their song work. Their voices alone sufficed. Bravo Drew, Jeff, Justin and Nick for a job well done.
